Like plenty of areas in Baja California, Cabo San Lucas offers a spectacular range of beaches for those craving for a sun and sand fix. It's reliably dry and sunny weather only helps to promote its beaches, along with plenty of accommodations around town geared towards eagerly offering the best of what Cabo has to offer.
There's a beach even as one enters the town of Cabo San Lucas. Here, you will find Medano Beach, which extends through the main beachfront hotel zone and is always busy with never-ending beach activity. It is also Cabo's main beach, featuring an inner harbor that docks boats, watercrafts, anchored yachts, and successfully keeping the quiet atmostphere of the main marina. Visitors of Medano beach may rent a watertoy of their choice-- from wave runners to sea kayaks. The sand of the beach is also a favorite of beach runners, as it stretches two miles away from town, and offers challenges via slopes and soft sand. It is also readily accessible from key establishments such as Club Cascadas de Baja, and Costa Real Cabo Resort.
Another popular beach is the Playa de Doņa Chepa, or the Lover's beach as it is often called by English tourists. Despite its popularity, it remains well hidden, requiring the services of some form of floating transportation to get to (usually a water taxi). It offers a spectacular view of the area joining two waters-- where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. Lover's Beach is entitled as such due to its relative concealment, and the fact that couples frequent the area. Picnics are encouraged, though the beach is more often devoted to providing good views and listening to the wind and waves crashing. It's not really ideal for swimming at times, as the strong waves and currents may prove dangerous for swimming, especially for the Pacific Ocean side.
Sormal and Terrasol beach is a wide stretch of sand facing the Pacific ocean, extending from the Land's End to the Pedregal to the West. The beach is situated in front of several hotels and suites, including Solmar Suites, Terrasol Resort and Hotel Finisterra. This is another beach where swimming is ill-advised, as the currents and waves are hazardous. Nevertheless, it makes for a great place to sunbathe and just simply relax and enjoy the sea breeze.
Finally, we come to El Faro Viejo or the Old Lighthouse, a beach hub that has access difficulties, though reaching it is always worth the trouble. It may be reached by a normal rental car though. The El Faro Viejo is the site of a mechanized light house surrounded by rolling sand dunes formed by the strong winds of the Pacific Ocean throughout the years. The most enjoyable point of this trip is heading to the top of the hill and being greeted by a magnificent view of the Pacific ocean, though proceeding any further should be done with caution as the sand is soft and the slope quite steep.
